Macbook Air/Pro vs iPad/iPhone output

Hi guys,

Apple doesn't list very useful specs regarding audio output on its devices. Can anybody verify that the output of the headphone jack is the same on all their devices, and if so, if it's line level or what? Thanks.

I can confirm that my 1st Gen iPod Nano (about 7 years old) is about 6db hotter than any iPhone I've taken a signal from. I think there was a European Union health and safety thing a few years ago that limited the maximum output from portable devices. That's obviously not the only thing determining the resulting SPL at the ear, but it probably kept the right people happy.
