Assuming you have the right connectors, 3ft patches won't be an issue. OM1 should be just fine but I have always seen OM2 be the recommended "default" and the price difference should be inconsequential. Typically these will have an orange jacket. The OM3 and OM4 cables are intended for very high speed applications and generally have blue-greenish sort of jacket - you'll sometimes see these referred to as "laser optimized fiber".
