Microphone Recommendation

Hello,

We've built a small green screen studio and are producing "Meet the Doctor" videos. I started with a Telex wireless audio system into a mixer and over to a camera. I've come to the conclusion that there is excess white noise in the audio I believe due to the wireless microphone and by the time I clean it up using Adobe Audition the doctor sounds like he's in a can.

I want to switch to boom microphone(s) and possibly in combination of ceiling hung as we grow our capabilities.

I want to start with a single boom (wired) that will be a few feet away from the doctor and out of frame of course. Can someone help me with a recommendation. Is this the path I need to go and some links to a microphones that meet the grade, tripod stand(s) and accessories if needed? I'm using a mixer with XLR connections.

Thanks for any help you can throw my way.

Dave

Re: Microphone Recommendation

Are you sure the mic is the problem? I've had some trouble with the mic preamps on cameras. Getting the various gain settings right can be a problem. Could you record the audio separately and the sync it in post? What camera are you using?

Re: Microphone Recommendation

Another vote here for checking your gain structure starting with the mic transmitter to the camera input.
Does your camera have a mic / line selector switch, either physical or in a menu setting. Does it have XLR inputs, does it have any form of level adjustment. At this point my bet is that the camera either is set for mic level input or it only has mic inputs.
Let us know the camera model.
