Midas offline editor - how to save to stick or hard drive of mac

I must be having one of those ID TEN T moments..

I can't figure out how to save a show. I've configured the console just as I want it, file, save; create a new show file. Keep saving heaps of times but when I exit software and come back in, I can load the show but nothing changes.

I read somewhere about scenes so I named a few channels, ensure save & recall scope was everything; saved scene, saved file; logged off and back on and still didn't work.

I see on the file screen it says "Console" so maybe I need to save to a stick. Insert one and I can see it coming up on the right hand side of the screen but I can't figure out how to save there.

I'm also not a mac guy - I can find my way around but i'm no expert.

Help !

It's a little different than most. You basically have to save it twice.

First, you have to make your show file. Name it whatever. Then, you save a scene in your show file. The "save" button at the top of the screen will turn red after you save your scene in the automation. Press the red save button and and it will turn blue. This means you have saved your file. When you insert your usb drive, you can then transfer your show file with the scene inside of it. Load your show file on the desk, recall the scene in the automation, and bam, you're set.

Step by step(now that I have the editor in front of me):
-Home -> Automation
-If the screen is blank, press new. If not, select a blank scene. Press "store scene."
-store to empty scene, name it whatever.
-press ok, and then press the Red save button
-done

Hi,

Ok.. I can now see how to transfer to stick -needed to scroll down to see the import/export buttons.

I've followed your instructions but don't have access to a console. So I quit the app and then restart.

As a test, the only thing i'm changing is the names of the first 8 channels - to be Kick, Snare, Hats, Tom 1 etc instead of Mic 1, Mic 2.

When I restart, the channel names are Mic 1, Mic 2. I load my show and no change. I go to automation and click on the scene - it goes yellow to indicate now; but channel names still don't change.

Recall scope and store scope are all green - ie, everything ?

Argh ! The gui is by far the best out of all that i've worked with but haven't had any troubles with yamaha, avid & digico.

Andrew,

The key step you are missing is that you have to load the scene by clicking NOW. Until you do that the show file you have loaded is not active.

It might help if I try and explain the way the memory structure of the consoles works, hopefully then it will all click together. But please excuse the length of this post, I'm just trying to be as clear as possible. I'm also hoping this will help others once they read this too.

The consoles have a layered memory system similar to the way a laptop PC works. You have some RAM, an internal drive and a 'partician' where the console backs up. This would be similar to the hibernation partiction on a PC for instance.

You can use the consoles just like an analogue console, work on it, mix on it, set everything up. Turn it off and it will come back exactly as you left it. This is because the whole systems 'state' is stored to the 'hibernation partician' every 5 seconds or so. This is slightly different on the offline software, as this partician doesn't exist. When you want to store the work you've done (on the console or the offline software) the vessel to do this is a Show File.

When you create a new show file (Automation>New) you will see an empty file with a read only scene at 0. When you create a show file it is basically the same as creating a new folder/file on your desktop. It is an empty folder waiting for data to be stored into it, in our case that data is scenes. So every Show File must have at least one scene in it. Once you have stored a scene you will see the SAVE button go red. We have now added a function where the console/offline software stops you from saving a show with no scenes in it.

This tells you that the show file you are working on in the RAM is different from the show file backed up on the internal drive. Clicking SAVE synchronises the show file in the RAM with the copy on the internal drive.

Each scene is a complete picture (or snap shot) of the entire console. Every piece of data is stored in each and every scene. This includes network patching, console patching, bus configurations, effects racks, GEQ's, VCA/POP group assignments and everything else I haven't mentioned.

This means that you can change the way to console is configured and deployed on a scene by scene basis.

Once you have imported the show file you load the file into the console (Automation>Load). But until you recall a scene from that file it does not become active. This can be quite useful as you can use it to move scenes between show files, festivals are a good example of where this can be useful for instance.

They key thing is to understand the difference between storing scenes (which is storing data) and saving show files (which is a whole folder of data).

I hope this has helped in some way.
Once again apologies for the long reply.

Dang man. Having similar problems. I just followed the steps above. Saved a show file then saved a scene. I did built an entire file saving the whole time. When I tried to export to a USB stick the editor wouldn't read three different USB sticks even though they show up in my finder window. I saved again and restarted the software and now, no more show file or saved scenes! Noooooo. I can't seem to find it anywhere in my CPU when I search for it either. Is it gone? Why doesn't the offline editor let you export to a folder on your cpu? Then you could just drag and drop it anywhere. Argh.

I should also add that normally when I close the software I get I "Are you sure you want to close this without saving first?" Warning. Which I didn't get this time. I wonder if it just crashed as I was closing it?

Re: Midas offline editor - how to save to stick or hard drive of mac

I've not had success saving to USB stick if the stick has been inserted after the app starts. So I either insert stick before I start or, do all my stuff; save, then quit; then insert stick and start app again.

The process is fairly straightforward if not intuitive. If you've been saving as you go it should be to the midas folder; which you can then do a transfer/export to get it to the stick. And I'm not sure where this midas folder is - otherwise you could just drag it out and drop.

Having written all this, if you're getting the "without saving" message you're probably missing a step. Try doing a new file but just do a few changes. Once you're sure it's worked then do all you want.

So as Evan wrote, new show file; then new scene. Then click the red save button and watch it change to blue. Go to the files section and ensure you can see your new show file there.

Next quit the app and restart. When you start the app there is a kind of default show file loaded. Go to files, highlight yours; press load. Nothing changes yet. Now go to automation, click on your scene and then press now. Changes should now appear - so go check the changes you made (eg channel names) and they should be there.

Re: Midas offline editor - how to save to stick or hard drive of mac

Dear Ben,

First, simplify things as much as possible by using just one flash drive at a time. Once you build your Show and add Scenes, you will need to Close and exit out of the Show before it can be exported to USB. Which Offline Editor are you using? If you haven't already, try our latest PRO1 Editor, which can be downloaded here:

I'm sorry because I seem to have highjacked this thread. If any mods would like to open a new one they are welcome to. Please see the attached screen shot. There you can see my finder has found and recognized my usb stick but the editor has not. I am using version G2.05R of the editor. If I use the pro 1 editor you have linked will I have access to the show file I just built in this editor?

Re: Midas offline editor - how to save to stick or hard drive of mac

I'd have to double check but I don't believe you have the folder structure correct. I could be wrong...don't have a USB flash drive with me at the moment. Will look later this evening.

Good luck.

Nope, it was just the stick. I tried three of my own which had been formatted in different places and then tried with a brand new stick and it worked.

Re: Midas offline editor - how to save to stick or hard drive of mac

Glad you got it working. I just knew that specific folders have to be in place for the console to see upgrades. I wasn't sure about shows but was thinking mine may look different.

Good luck.
