Midas Pro1 corrosion

Hello all,

I've had a Midas Pro1 installed in my church since December. Last weekend, during rehearsal, the console started advancing to the next scene on its own, all the way to the end of the list. The scene changing became very slow, and always sporadically advanced until the end of the list. We moved our scene to the end of the list, and carried on through the service with no issues (my wife's idea, that brilliant woman).

After the service, I opened up the console. I found a ribbon connector on the fader board that had corrosion on it. This ribbon connector is located right next to the automation buttons. I cleaned it up with Deoxit, put everything back together, and it now works just fine.

Question is, has anyone else had corrosion problems like this specifically with Midas Pro digital gear? There is a air vent in close proximity, and the HVAC only runs when the sanctuary is occupied for services. Could the constant cooling and heating have caused some condensation that caused corrosion on less than one year old gear? The previous Yamaha 01V sat in the same spot for 10 years prior to the article of the Pro1 and had no issues.

Re: Midas Pro1 corrosion

Hello Jordan,
I recomend to get in touch with Kyle Chirnside in Las Vegas.(US) Kyle Chirnside | 702-371-2328 [email protected] to get this fixed. Looking at your photograph it appears something has gotten into the console.
I am sure we are able to resolve this Problem quickly for you.

With kind regards

That looks like it could be dried sweat to me. I had that on wireless body packs that had a sweat problem before we took very aggressive prevention steps.

Re: Midas Pro1 corrosion

Yet another pro series problem.

Brian, don't you think it is a little early to blame this as a Pro series problem?

It rained very hard one day on some EAW wedges of mine, and when I poured the water out of the horns, the HF driver in 2 of them had apparently died somewhere in the process. I certainly didn't point the finger at EAW. Why should we point the finger at Midas here?

Re: Midas Pro1 corrosion

It's highly unlikely that this is a manufacturing defect. From what I've seen over the years that kind of corrosion is either caused by liquid ingress or being left in a damp/humid location (such as a garage or shed). as it seems that the location was not unusually damp or humid it would seem that the only cause can either be water ingress (spilling a drink etc.) or sweat.
