I am having a case made for my Pro1.I plan on having 1" foam installed in the case. Are there any things I should know about storing and transporting this console? Is it ok to leave in a trailer in all kinds of weather? Is it better to transport it on it's side, back or front? Anything else I should know about transporting or storing this console?

If you have not already taken delivery on your pro 1, you may want to inquire with your dealer as midas sells them with the road case as an option, it is called a tour pack.

the case only adds $370 to the MAP price of the console

as for cold storage, I have left many consoles in trailers, and vans for weeks at a time, and so far have had no problems. as a rule of thumb i leave them sit with the lids open after load in for a half hour or so before i power up. I dont know if it really helps, but it at least makes me feel better about things.

Re: Midas Pro1 road case

I was concerned since it's a digital console and was not sure how they are affected by cold and also is it better to transport on it's side, back or doesn't that matter? I didn't want the Midas case since it's twice as heavey as board.

Re: Midas Pro1 road case

but what's the weight of the case you're looking to have made yourself ? Is it approaching the weight of the midas ?

In my case i'm having a case made for my pro2c because I want a few features that midas doesn't offer and.. it will come in a lot cheaper than the midas original. For the pro1 though.. the closest I could come to matching their price is at least double; probably close to 2.5 times.

I can't speak specifically for this gear, but in general I like to store things how they are meant to sit. Just figuring that's how everything is mounted inside the unit it seems logical. May not be helping at all, but helps me sleep at night.

I don't like to leave in the trailer, as the gear heats and cools rapidly. But if you let it settle in to an environment and evaporate moisture before power up it is likely fine.

I agree with this - get the Midas case. Who cares how much it weighs; it's on wheels, and no matter how you spin it the case + console is going to be lighter than just about any cased large-format analog in existence.

Cases are heavy because they're made (the good ones anyway) of Baltic Birch, laminated with ABS or PVC, with lots of aluminum and steel. Heavy = quality = protection. I would not want to skimp on a few pounds and have another case blow through the side when it runs away down the truck ramp.

Electronics are not really affected by temperature. Think of all the tours carrying tractor-trailers of gear all over the USA and the world with no climate control. As long as the gear is not covered in condensation when you power it up, you're fine.

Re: Midas Pro1 road case

Swerve.....I have heard some issues with LCD screens and cold weather. I personally don't leave my consoles in the cold. Anyone had any problems with LCD monitors and cold?

Thanks.

Re: Midas Pro1 road case

My cold and your cold is DEFINITELY different!!! Around here we may get 10 to 14 days a year of 20 degree or lower weather. I'd say we average between 35 and 45 degrees a night as a low. So I'm guessing there is no problem leaving a LCD on the truck over night.......

Gear tours all over the country and world, and it's normal for us to get a show from Denver or Nebraska, snow and ice covering the trailer. The only thing the crew does is open stuff up and power it up really soon (before there can be a lot of condensation), or let it sit for hours to warm up slowly. Nothing special. In a touring show there are dozens of LCD screens in use, none of them seem to have issues related to cold.

And if the LCD screens had issues with being transported through all weather conditions in non climate-controlled containers, we wouldn't be having them shipped in from Asia by container ship or air freight...
