No, I'm not starting a new career, "mixing the already dead".

I would like the sound portion of a Miles Davis band tech rider from any time between 1972 and 1990; the earlier in that period the better.

I'd like it for the "history of sound reinforcement" portion of a class I'm teaching this fall.

thanks,

Hello Lee,

I'm wondering if many artists even had much of a tech rider until the eighties...?? I remember seeing a tech rider from Elvis from about 1972, and it was kinda like: need a 6 channel mixing console, 6 microphones with cables, and six mic stands....kinda thing.

Now....for the hospitality riders... I'm sure they could get quite complicated. ;o)

Hammer, That's the point I'm hoping to make to my students. They're mostly aspiring jazz players and Miles is an iconic name AND one of the first jazz musicians to go electric in a big way.

Santana's contract for Woodstock had no "tech rider" at all, just a line on the face of the contract requiring the promoters to provide a sound system with 12 microphones.

I even know that he, or more correctly his crew, was schlepping around a large truck of stuff as early as 1971 with, in addition to two Rhodes pianos, a Combo organ bass amp and drums, a BIG pile of Acoustic 360 and 270 powered speakers.

I just want an original document to show for comparison to more contemporary tech riders.

And hospitality riders through the early 80s were, for the most part, NOTHING like they've become.

Hey Lee,

I understand.... these little bits of info should be in a Museum, whether real or virtual, anyway....it's history. I'll try to contact Miles children and some of his musicians and touring people, maybe we'll get lucky...

Just on a side note...Miles recorded some tracks with Prince. While there was mutual respect by both artists, I don't think either one liked the other. Both seemed to have their eccentricities, one more on the "art" of music and the other on acceptance of the music.

Cheers,
