mixing Tonight Show and Happy Birthday

By default I am a lifelong fan of all things Allman Brother and today is Dickey's 70th birthday. I just stumbled into this YouTube clip for the first time and it's AMAZING.

Poor Doc had some serious volume to overcome with those 4 JBL 12's right next to him - how'd ya like to try to mix that mess for TV?

(skip ahead to the 4:10 mark - for some reason it won't start where I told it to)

What a treat! The second half with the tonight show brass and Doc Severinsen is about the best 4 minutes of my time I have spent in quite a while. Happy Birthday Dickey!

Agreed - smokin' stuff - I've listened to it 2 or 3 times now and still have a hard time wrapping my lil peabrain around all those complex notes and the precise dual guitar harmonies. BTW - Dickey uses E series JBL's so that Marshall 100 is most likely not in the main house mix.

OOPS! I just watched again and noticed that they're both using TWO 4x12 cabs so of course they have TWO obligatory 100 watt heads for each cab. Think they heard the geetarz in the front rows?!

I saw this live, well, live on TV.. Big fan here as well.. Grew up in Macon GA. Knew of them before they hit...On a side note, every year in Macon, as close to Duanes birthday as possible, there is a benefit concert for the Macon Rescue Mission's food drive.. It's called SkyDog.

You can always turn it down----------------------------

WHY?! You're no fun - Dickey, Duane, Jimi, Stevie, Johnny, all have big amps and bigger talent. That's why this clip is so great. The portion with Doc and the horns is just the coolest thing ever - kinda like when Prince had the FAME U Horns help with half time at the Super Bowl. 8)~8-)~
