Monitors for a trio

Is there a way to run 3 monitors (mono signal) off of one power amp. We are currently splitting the monitor signal out from the board (via 1/4" y cable) and sending one signal to a monitor amp powering 2 speakers and sending the other signal to a small powered monitor for the drummer. We are consistantly having problems balancing the powered monitor without getting feedback. Three monitors on one power amp will surely present an impedence problem, right?

Thanks for the reply, Mike! Its a Behringer NU 1000 power amp and Yamaha SM12E monitors. Bear in mind also that we are running the monitor send mono as our powered mixer has only 1 monitor out. We have more and larger equipment, but are trying to keep our "small/medium room" system and set-up to an efficient and streamlined rig. Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

You could daisy chain 2 of them and have the third on the second amp channel. From a quick look it looks like that amp isnt sending that much power at 8ohm so not sure if you would be able to get them loud for your liking. Guessing the powered speaker on the drummer gets cranked up during the show causing feedback. Maybe having the controls across the stage might help.
Its often recommended to not draw different impedance's off of separate amp channels but with an 8ohm and 4ohm load I doubt you would run into issues and an amp this new would likely go into protect before any real damage. Although at 150$ I wouldnt be too confident. Maybe do a test run at a practice session.

Thanks Ben. I actually have an old 800 watt Peavey Power amp that is stout and quite HEAVY! I swapped in the Behringer (which is plenty loud and clean, BTW) because it is light weight (the 3 of us are all mid 50s-60 years old, LOL, and I have an aortic anuerisym that restricts my lifting). We actually have a 4th monitor and we may just have to start using it somewhere on stage, although we don't really need it.......

STOP right there. On stage, Less is More.
Less sound bouncing around, is less interference with the house.
Are wired IEM's a possibility? Using the beltpack, you could dial in the volume each player needs. No feedback, and no stage wash.........
AND, THEY DON'T WEIGH VERY MUCH !!!!!!

Chris.

Chris, I use IEM's with my worship band at church, but, I'm pretty old school when performing....I like the interaction with the crowd, the music on stage and hearing/feeling some air moving. For that reason, IEM's don't appeal as an option.

Just run two monitors on channel one of your power amp and run the other monitor on channel two. Your amp is a little light on power thus it should not smoke things.
More monitors onstage = more chances for feedback
One (or) two monitors on the front of the stage and the drummer with his own powered wedge is plenty in most cases.
With monitors, sometimes less is more....

Correct me if I am wrong, and I very well may be. Let me see if I got this straight , you are wanting to take a power amp and put 2 unpowered monitors and one powered monitor on one channel so you will all get the same signal path? If so, how low will your power amp go. I think if my calculations are correct you will be going down to a 2.6 ohm load if this amp will take a 2 ohm load then you should be fine but if the lowest load is a 4 ohm load then I wouldn’t advise it. Now , on the powered speaker if you are running a power amp into a powered speaker you are going to blow the amp inside the powered speaker. I would put three unpowered speaker cabs on the power amp .

My badddd: Put the 2 "unpowered" monitors on one channel of the amplifier and use the powered monitor as is.....

why not putting EACH "unpowered" monitor on a SEPARATE channel of the amp (i assume you have a 2-channel one), and the "powered" on the splitt from the mixer out? will give you three separate controllable monitors... 8)~8-)~
or do i miss something?
