Hi Y'all, There are a number of switching/muting options for use with phantom powered mics. Some work well in certain situations, others not so quietly. A few years ago a friend built a box for me that mutes a phantom powered mic. It works well. Quite handy for Fiddles with on-board mics and some other applications. (This is based on the Crown design.) A green LED glows when the circuit is active, and is off when muted. The light is powered by a 9V battery that lasts quite a long time. Recently a friend got a similar switch box, except it glows red when muted: Wounded Paw Record Shop It works well. Then I found and bought the Orchid Mic Mute Box. Very nice. It glows red when muted. The cool thing is the light is phantom powered, so no 9V battery needed. It has the XLR out, and additionally a switched 1/4" jack that can go to an on-stage amp, and another 1/4" jack that is always on and can go to a tuner. Balanced Microphone Muting Pedal I asked if they would consider building a slightly smaller box, with just the XLR in/out, and it turns out one was in the design stage. So I bought four of the smaller ones. Mic Mute lite I asked several musicians whether they would prefer Red light on = Mute or Green light on = Channel Active and by far folks wanted the 'rude' red light to tell them to un-mute after tuning. On some outdoor or brightly lit stages the green led on the original box I have can be a bit hard to see. Thanks and good health, Weogo
