Re: My Mixer Problem

While the X32 by itself will not replace a MCU Pro, there has been written some software that will allow it to emulate multiple Mackie controls and thus provide you with a full set of faders. There is also some hope/expectation that future firmware updates to the X32 will provide a fuller set of available controls. Have a look at x32user.net for some of the things that people are developing. A Mackie Pro does of course provide some stuff that are not available on the X32 in terms of transport control although a lot can be programmed into the user definable buttons.

Will you be happy with replacing the Mackie Pro with an X32? I think that is very much a question of taste and adaptability.

Since the Apollo have 16 line level inputs, I expect most of your input needs will be fulfilled in terms of ability to hook up your synths, but I also suspect that the X32 might be able to replace the Apollo and the Mackie.

Therefore, I would opt to go with the X32 and a four input midi and try out that setup if I was going to go the X32 route at all, you might find that the X32 (that you also can use for effects and mastering) along with a DAW and a midi interface actually fulfils all your needs.

I would be a bit sceptical about the X32 and Apollo audio interfaces coexisting on the same computer if recording through both at the same time. I'm not saying they won't, but until you've tried, you won't know. Having one system for recording and another for post-recording work seems cumbersome and a waste of money, and if I was convinced that I needed the Apollo, I would go that route exclusively.
