Re: NBA Playoffs: Dallas edition Yup, roundball is not getting much love, and if they go on strike next season it will get even worse, but that's life when you get paid to play kids games. ===== It is rare to see two teams match up this well. It is a great series and you can even see the impact of coaching adjustments, not just individual efforts. In a low scoring defensive series like this is am concerned that fans will be turned off, it's like the opposite of an all star game, and with the TV replays it becomes more and more apparent when the refs blow calls, that can make a bigger difference in low scoring games. One painful example involving your man Kidd, was in game 3. He got his defender into the air, then moved into him to draw the three shot foul. A smart veteran play..... Unfortunately the video replay when they looked to see if his feet were set for a two or three point shot, clearly showed Kidd moving both feet (he travelled) to step into the path of the defender.... So instead of three free throws, it "should" have been a turnover where he lost the possession, but the refs are not allowed to change the call, just adjust for two or three points. The good news is it didn't change the outcome of that game, but as you noted the whole series has pretty much come down to the last shot every game. So calls and free throws do matter. It is good (IMO) that so far I haven't seen any of the key players sit major minutes because of foul trouble, but the series isn't over. It would make the games longer but I wouldn't mind more video reviews of contested calls, and I would like to see a new kind of technical foul for players who flop (pretend to be fouled hard when they weren't). Both teams invest too much energy into acting, trying to sell calls, they need to put that effort into refining their other skills. There's a fine line between a smart player and a slick player. It is not showing respect for the game or the audience when players try to gain unfair advantage by fraud. I am rooting for Miami, but the Mavs refuse to stay down, so it's a coin toss from here. It is a great series and great basketball, but probably less appreciated by the unwashed public, as that 130 pt game in the earlier playoff rounds. My regular pick-up game is thurs night so I predict the gym will clear out early... enjoy... JR
