This mic is PERFECT in every way! When I decided to sell this mic I had it given a clean bill of health by a reputable shop. When I got it back – I hooked it up to verify nothing happened in shipping and packed it away in a box! (You have no idea how hard it is to not pull it out for “just this one session!”)
This has been my baby for quite some time now and by far one of the coolest, most versatile, warm and glossy sounding mics that I’ve even owned! This SM-69 is a stereo valve microphone with AC701 valves. The tubes are in “Dead Mint” condition according to the teck who just gave this a clean bill of health. Everything on the mic and PSU are original. The 16 pattern selections are made through the power supply and I had the cables changed over to a new mogami type cables which is around 50 feet long. I will include a new Peluso shock mount and also the originalNeumann SM-69 case which is a bit worn.
I have always heard people consider this microphone to be a stereo U 67, In my opinion it is so much more than that. To me, the color and character that this mic can add over the 67 is tremendous! This is one of those tools that is just dripping and oozing with warmth! The SM-69 also allows for some very cool tricks. One of my favorite things to do with this mic is to use it on vocal’s. Recording both outputs, then having the side capsule (Not facing the vocalist) set to figure 8 so that it’s signal can be smashed and manipulated for the room tones. There is nothing else out there that can emulate that sound! I’m starting to feel like this is just another EQ review here but you get the picture,,, This is a tool that was made for recording hit records! I
