Good day all,

edited - PLEASE NOTE: heading should read - Nexo PS8 & PS TD analogue controller (no matching sub or amps)

I got my hands on a pair second hand Nexo PS8's, which were rarely used and in very very good condition. No scuff marks on the boxes and they sound brilliant when I connected it directly to my amp. My local sound agent had a look at them and also is impressed with their condition & sound.

Initially I was looking at getting one amp with a nice graphic equalizer, patch the pair of Nexo's on one channel & maybe a pair of 12'' bass bins on the other channel.....just as a small second disco rig for small house parties for about 60-ish people. (I do have a big rig for over 400 people and another that will handle between 100-200)

Now the thing is, the PS8's came with the PS Analogue TD controller (but no matching amp or sub) which I did not take because I did not know what it was for or functionality. After reading some reviews, I think I should look at getting it.

If I am able to get the PS Analogue TD controller to manage the system, is it possible to:-
  • use one (1) amp to power the pair of PS8's and a sub (or 2) - PS8's on one channel & subs on the other
  • or should I get an amp to just run the PS8's and then an active bass bin.

I am looking for most cost effective option.

Any help & advise will be highly appreciated

In addiition to the Nexo PS controller (yes you need it), you'll need to do as Rob said, you'll need an active crossover before the PS controller, the high output (out of the crossover) will go to the controller-then the amp-the low output of the crossover will go straight to the amp.

Re: Nexo PS8 & LS400 - no matching sub or amps - WHAT TO DO NOW

Thank you Rob & Gary, much appreciated on the advice. Please excuse me if I may come off being a little blond, but may I clarify the system flow, so I get it right:-

CDJ/ DJ mixer -> active crossover (Behringer 3 way crossover) -> Nexo PS TD controller -> amp -> PS8's & sub

PS8 -> the MID output from the Behringer will go into the input of Nexo PS TD controller and then the output from there will go into the amp, then speakers. (would I still need to connect & use the sensitivity feature on the PS controller)

Sub -> the sub output from the Behringer will go straight into the amp, then sub.

Can this above flow (as a passive system), work using only 1 amp to power the PS8's (on 4 Ohm load) on one channel and the sub (either 4 or 8 Ohm load) on the other.

Re: Nexo PS8 & LS400 - no matching sub or amps - WHAT TO DO NOW

Isn't there a current sense connection on the Nexo's that goes to the controller? That may be what the OP is calling a sensitivity feature.

Vishnu the TD controller will do the work of a crossover if you use the ls400 sub, so no need for the Behringer unless you use another brand of sub , as Steve says there is a detector circuit which needs to be wired in to the speaker outs this is used to allow the limiter built into the controller to stop any harm to the speakers. Yes one amp of the correct power rating will drive a pair of tops on one side and the sub on the other just make sure you connect the controller up correctly

ps the ls 400 is a good match for the ps8 if you can get it I would buy it

+1 on finding a pair of ls400's

Also, I seem to remember that a dsp amp doesn't play nice with the TD controller. Iirc the latency in a dsp amp (even if the dsp is turned off) confuses the sense circuit of the TD.

I know the latency with an I-Tech messes with the TD controller...
