No one is safe..

Re: No one is safe..

It had to do with your "parting shot" and the change of name back to a handle. Moderator changed your name back... but now the thread has been deleted. Your ban is by IP address, I presume.

I made my thoughts known by PM and was basically told, "this is the way it is."

Have fun, good luck.

Re: No one is safe..

I don't recall any parting shots lately, or are they just retroactively canning people?
as far as I'm concerned I followed the rules as I did have a real name when I posted. Semantics and loopholes are hardly a reason to ban someone, especially from a new forum that I'm not even registered on. but oh well I guess that'll just free up some time :)

The FUD version of PSW is still part of PSW, and the use of an alias there will be considered the same as the use of an alias in the live version of the forums. Continued use of an alias will keep you from being able to post in the forums, just as it always has. This is not a change, nor is it aimed at any individual. If the FUD forums close with any user having an alias there they will be out of luck at the current site. Real names have always been central to the professional nature of the forums, and they continue to be. If it seems humorous to go back to an alias as the FUD forums sign off, the punchline may be that you have limited where you can participate in the future.

Anyone is free to not participate on any forums they don't want to be part of, but what you want to do today may not be what you want to do tomorrow.

Re: No one is safe..

I had posts deleted but did not escalate it to getting banned... I kept my more direct comments in PM or off list.

I still have a bad taste in my mouth but will still chime in over there if I have something to contribute.

The issue is not having a real name when you post, it is having a real name. When you change your name in your profile it is changed on every post you ever made. It is neither semantics nor a loophole, it is the longstanding rule.

Re: No one is safe..

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Banning users for voicing their discontent regarding the forum changes is in my opinion, the only mistake the moderators made in that debacle. This is just a continuing of that mess. Let's not start another thread about that and leave all that stuff where it belongs ; in the past.

Those who felt slighted voted with their feet, what is done is done.

Re: No one is safe..

Mac,

In all honesty, I thought you handled some trying times fairly well and in a reasonable manner. One of your peers was off the walls, erratic, and consistantly rude. The professional thing works both ways, some of management and one moderator did not seem to show that.

That is just my opinion, and I am glad you choose to participate here. I tend to read your posts closely.

Re: No one is safe..

Why the bad taste?

Mac

I expressed my concerns in real time, at the time, to the people I had differences with.

I was either dismissed or deleted and don't really care to rehash those events, or argue about it now. I dealt with it back then and moved on.

I am only responding to you out of personal respect. (FWIW IIRC you only ignored me one time in connection with a disputed time line of events, and since i posted a smoking gun link to make my point, perhaps there was nothing more to add to that particular discussion.)

As I said I am not boycotting the new site, and will still post to threads over there when I see that I have some specific knowledge and something to contribute, but I no longer feel much sense of community, like before.

I know we can never go home again, and times change, but like i said, I was left with an unpleasant sense about what transpired. Of course maybe I am just thin skinned and not familiar with web forum behavior... :-)

Re: No one is safe..

I think I'm pretty safe over there, because I've been pretty silent over there. I am not boycotting either. It's just that everyone I know from there is now here, and that's good enough for me.
