Just home after day one (evening tonight) of a 3 day outside holiday event. Large glass of bourbon is tasting good.
It started out at 50 during setup, cloudy with periods of drizzle.
The organizer didn't like the color (blue) of my ez-up. They wanted all white ones. Well, mine is a straight leg 10x10 with side curtains. It helped keep the rain out as the day progressed. Blue is nicer for the next 2 afternoons with seeing the screen on the LS9.
Schedule was for band at 6pm. Band load in at 5. At 5 a horn umpa style band starts setting up music stands. I am expecting electric guitars. Organizers rep (stage manager who had never done this before) tells me that the horn band will play from 5:30 to 6 but doesn't need a PA. Somehow I need to load a 5 piece rock band in between 5:50 and 6 and the time I planned to wire the stage just disappeared.
Oh, and it is raining now.
Somehow we made it through. Both bands were fine and easy to work with.
During "walkout" (after band finished and to end of event I am playing music) a guy comes over and just powers off the generator. Now I am on stage in the dark formally coiling cables. I yell, power comes back. Desk restarts and the tunes continue.
When the event ends, we shut down (leaving the lights on) and started securing things for the night. Another guy comes over (supervisor type) and asks nicely when we will be through. I tell him 15 min. He says fine. I tell him about the power being cut and he says that should not be as it was supposed to be on till 30 min after event end. I tell him I will shut it down when done if ok. He says fine and will find out who gave me a bad time.
We drive hone in rain, the freezing rain and finally when I get to my neighborhood it is in the snow.
Fun, back in the morning.
