Pile - O - Community Speakers

Re: Pile - O - Community Speakers

Is each amp in it's own SKB case? No wonder his back is hurting! Oh my God!

From what I can see each one is in a separate case. I bet the power distro is a daisy chained string of power strips.
I would like to see the rest of the "behind the scenes" of that "system"

My gut tells me that there is no active crossover processing happening between the subs and the top boxes, everything is just getting hit with full range signal that has been "processed" with a sonic maximizer.

Community did put passive high pass networks in some of their subs on a pass through output to feed top boxes, maybe the case with those or not.

Boomerang, no kidding. Sound bouncing all around. I'll bet the slap back off that gym wall could knock someone out. Hey, old gear has to go somewhere.

All my monitors (12) were Community CSX. Particle board covered in carpet with piezo horns and 5 soldered-in light bulbs per crossover. The least bump would jar one loose and the horn would crackle. I decided to rebuild the cabinets, then change out the crossover, then go with a different hi frequency driver, so all that's left now is the 15". At least I now have wedges that will last.

I've done quite a few gigs on those old CSX boxes back in the day. Actually they were decent for the time, albeit nowhere near as loud as they look (by modern standards).
We've got a set of CSX boxes here; four tops and four bottoms. As you say, they were great at the time; best boxes we owned. Though they do require a decent amount of tuning; the mid-high is a bit in the 'tear your head off' category.
The last time they went out was at an outdoor festival two or three years ago.
Stacked and strapped, they did make for an impressive looking PA.
