PM5D - replace card reader with USB ?

We're having trouble with our card reader. We've replaced it recently and still have issues.

A recent visiting engineer suggested swapping out the entire card reader for a USB slot; and then using a USB card reader instead.

Has anyone done this; recommend it or otherwise ?

Several people have tried to find an alternative. I don't think anyone has found one yet.

If that were possible, it would have been done.
Just use SM with a connected computer.
