Portable powered speaker options?

What is everyone's take on portable powered speakers? I'm really interested in the new Turbosound IQ or Siena speakers but I'm curious what others think. How well do K-Series hold up? Are the Yamaha DRX just K-Series knockoffs? How are the new JBL Eons?

Re: Portable powered speaker options?

We have used the K Series K10s for a couple of years now. They are great sounding boxes for the size and price point. We use them on a stick for smaller events as mains and as monitor wedges and fills for larger events. Couldn't be anymore satisfied! They are a much better built and sounding box than the Eons. I can't speak to the other models you mentioned.

Good luck.

Re: Portable powered speaker options?

What type of band, or DJ? There are many portable powered boxes on the market right now, but half of them are not up to the task of being enough for a rock band.
Those TS boxes look very nice. I just posted on the other forum regarding the new Alto Black series, which have similar spec's. The other major players are JBL-PRX series, QSC KW series, and Yamaha DSR series. The K series QSC boxes are a step down from the KW's, and the Eons are a step down from the PRX lineup.

I just ran a gig with PRX tops over the KW181 sub's, and I was shocked at how good it sounded. These are good times for those of us looking for portable but quality sound.

I moved from JBL EON G2 15s to QSC HPR152s to QSC KW122s and K12s, now use Fulcrum Acoustics FA12ac speakers. I had good results with all of them, but I have to say the FA12ac boxes are an order of magnitude better.

I don't want to sideswipe this thread but since PRX was mentioned.... I have a client who has seen several "woofer" failures on PRX612m boxes. I don't know what actually fails in these boxes (the woofer or the electronics) but the lows stop working. I'm curious if others have had failures as well and if there is a particular cause.

Re: Portable powered speaker options?

Thanks guys for the replies guys. This will be used primarily for bands in smaller outdoor settings. Think I can get by with two K12s on sticks and a single KSub? I'm interested in the Turbosounds because of the ethernet connectivity...but I dont know when they will be out. Havent heard of Fulcrum...I'll check them out.

KSub = No-no.

I should hope so since one of those FA cabs costs as much as an entire KW rig :lol: They do sound amazing, though. Just wish I could afford them.

I took a chance and purchased mine used (PRX615's) from a DJ shop. I've got about 10 gigs on them, with a Hair Metal band, with no problems so far.
