Presonus gets moving faders.

Re: Presonus gets moving faders.

well ok fair dues. In fact not a bad idea as many ( including me) who bought the oppositions console and the remote digital stageboxes would have liked a mixer surface without the inbuilt I/o of the console - but the package price seems a bit steep for less functionality.
In fact I am planning to upgrade to the Midas M range (the r - for a smaller format) but again the inbuilt I/o except the auxes will be redundant for most uses - so would welcome a cheaper Midas surface with less inbuilt I/O - so come on MG look what the opposition are doing and undercut them while giving more - In the end mixing using a wearable tech watch will never be that great!

I think the folks who like the mixer for its immediacy and lack of menu diving will be happy with this change, as it solves the recall issue. Seems like a logical move to me.

I don't know what mixer you've been operating, but there's way more menu diving on the SL desk than anything else. And couple that with an absolutely horrid UI for menu control.....

The original PreSonus boards were plagued by that tiny LCD, but the touchscreen and computer based UI wasn't bad. I do believe the immediacy they are referring to is the Fat Channel, which actually was very good for helping users bridge the gap between digital and analogue when I taught people.

Re: Presonus gets moving faders.

Maybe I'm missing something here...
This is strictly an interface to their rackmount mixer? (and their DAW)
That is a rather large footprint - I do understand the dislike some have with touch mixing, and want something with flying faders.
But it is the size of a good sized mixer, but isn't.
I still own and use presonus mixers, but I don't get this.

Plus the TINY SCREEN! Still need a visual display?

Yes; I would assume what is going on is very similar to the seemingly outdated days of stagebox/mixrack and control surface separate. Perhaps outdated is a poor term, but it certainly seems like a step backwards for PreSonus.

I say this of course while wearing my Active Integration tee.

How is this a step backwards? I LOVE the idea that the processing is all handled in the stage box, and just control is done from the surface. It's pretty cool that they tossed in a couple of inputs and outputs to work with FOH if you need them.

This is a much better solution than sending all of the audio down the ethernet line, having it processed inside the mixer, and then sending it back down the ethernet line back to stage and the speakers. Using that scenario, if the cable is interrupted for any reason, all audio can stop. By keeping all audio on stage, if the connection is disrupted, the audio keeps passing, you just lose the ability to make changes to the settings.

It's the one thing I wish I could do with my X32's.

16 faders to control up to 64 channels doesn't seem like a real big footprint. It's smaller than my SL24.4.2 People have complained for years that Presonus didn't have any moving faders. Now they are complaining because they do.

If Presonus walked on water, some would say it's because they can't swim.

It just seems that they put in moving faders and didn't change all the other GUI things many dislike. I much prefer layers to having to search for function buttons in a dark room and stare at a tiny screen.

Ah yes. You can always mount an iPad for a bigger display. Many are comfortable with tbe workflow.

They forgot the iPad slot/groove. It's such a bloody simple thing, adding a groove along the top edge. I've suggested it to several manufacturers, but apparently not many agree with me that it is such an obvious improvement.

In their ai models they have provided an option to mount some clever holder at the back of the mixers. I can only assume that they've kept that option on the control surface as well...
