Hi everyone!
just joined here, so please forgive me if this is the wrong place or way to go about this.
I'm going to need a dependable hardware supplier during SXSW march 12-16th and I will most likely need to do last minute adjustments to my requirements and additions on short notice.
Service, professional people and quality far surpasses the money part and I will need to book specific items, not be handed what was left in the warehouse.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

looking forward to reading up in this forum!

Hi Haarek,

Be aware that SXSW is large enough that almost every provider in the region is involved to some extent. Try as hard as you can to have all of your needs outlined as far in advance as possible, since most shops are pretty bare during the festival. Last minute changes at SXSW are going to be difficult to get done, and expensive.

You might try contacting user Tim Weaver on this forum. He is fairly close to Austin, and will have contacts in the area. Good luck. It should be a good time!

I would love to help, but I'm booked solid that week. SXSW drains every resource for hundreds of miles around. Seriously. These things are booked 8 months to a year in advance for most of us.

For Backline you have Musiclab, Soundcheck Austin, and the Austin Backline Company, there's also Space City Backline in Houston.

For audio pretty much every stage will have a PA provided already.

What are you attempting to do there? Is it an official SXSW showcase or maybe a daytime private party?

I've been asked to quote bringing production from Atlanta before for South By.

The whole event is kind of sucky these days if you are an artist or BE.

Most definitely.

I don't think I'll ever go back again.

Hotel is always 25-30 miles away, and traffic is usually at a standstill. Then there are the 18 hour days, 5 days in a row with no breaks or back-up so you can grab food or take a shit. I mixed 45 bands one year in 4 days SOLO. That's 45 bands to set up, mix, and strike all by my lonesome. I'm talking full bands too, not acoustic or track acts.

The ear fatigue is every bit as bad as the body fatigue too. I would get a band up and then stick in the earplugs and put on my (silenced) headphones and try to give my ears a break, but even that doesn't work after a while.

Re: Pro audio/instrument rental, Austin Tx?

it's a great definition when trying to apply the term 'work' to this industry

and sadly
about the only thing resembling the original idea is the name...
