Got a weird one i need some ideas for. We got a couple new projectors for the university, Epson pl1980WU to replace some aging Sonys. Got them installed and started getting complaints from some faculty about an occasional flicker. When hooked up with a VGA signal, it looks to me like once every 2 to 3 minutes the image jumps just a bit. Problem is consistent across all of the projectors in that order. Epson has already exchanged one of the projectors in the order, to rule out a bad unit. The replacement exhibits the same behavior.
Here's the weird part: It seems to be only a few models of laptop having issues with the new projectors. Ive tested with several HP Elitebook8470 and all laptops have the issue, but only with the new projectors. The laptops work fine with everything else on campus. HP Probooks work fine with the new projectors, Macs work fine, Lenovo worked fine. Its just the Elitbooks not working with this specific model of projector. It's just a VGA signal fo pete's sake, that's usually a pretty universal thing. The only wild card that I can think of is that this model of projector is a very new line for them, and its one of their High Def 4K projectors, and I don't have a 4k VGA source I can see if it's a high resolution issue. Unfortunately most faculty on campus are using the EliteBooks so shrugging this off as a minor glitch won't work.
I've tried several different cables, I've tried with and without signal amps, different environments, battery vs wall power. Played with turning on or off various auto setups on the projector. I updated BIOS, Graphics driver, and the Intel chip driver in the laptop. Every setting I know to check matches between the Probook and the EliteBook. Every setting I can match between the new projectors and a reliable older model Epson matches. Epson had me check resolution, refresh rate, color space. Ultimately, Epson tells me that if other laptops work and the EliteBooks don't, then the projectors are fine and it must be the laptop.
I'm running out of things to check and change and need some ideas.
