Projector lenses and specs - Sanyo LNS-S11

I know I asked a similar question some time ago but I am maybe buying a projector with a Sanyo LNS-S11 lens and am trying to interpret the specs to figure out the image sizes at various distances.

I guess first, any experience with this lens to share?

I would like to figure out the range of distances I can project with this lens on an 8' or 10' screen.

LNS-S11 Zoom Lens 33mm - 43mm ratio 1.6 - 2.1:1

I found this chart but am having a hard time reading it. SANYO LNS-S11 SPECIFICATION SHEET Pdf Download.

Would the left column be screen width and the listing under the lens type be distance for that width? So, 8.33' would be 100" which would be 10.8' to 14.1' throw?

No clue about the lens but I always had good luck with Sanyo units. +1 for Projector Central too....no need for doing math with their nice app. I use it over any manufactures website when I'm spec'ing jobs just because it's quick to find, easy to use, and has yet to fail me.

The throw ratio is the ratio between the screen width and the throw distance. A 10' wide screen and a 1.6 throw ratio is a 16' throw. For some projectors you can get lenses as short as a 0.8 throw ratio, but they tend to have hotspots in the center because of the different path length between edge and center.

That lens should let you have a projector distance of 16'-21' for a 10' image.

Thanks Mac. 16' is perfect for what I need.
I bought a used (from a church with 500hrs on it) Sanyo PLC-XTC50L projector with the LNS-S11 lens. Now I (hope) can stop fretting over getting a bright enough unit when I need it. It might be overkill for watching the super bowl at home though :-)

You won't anymore, Sanyo's projector division was purchased by Panasonic some time ago and last year they moved everything under the Panasonic brand. When they did that there was a lot of consolidation in models and in some cases the assumptions on what were competing or 'comparable' models seemed based solely on the brightness and whether they were 4:3 or 'widescreen' format. However, some of the the OEM arrangements Sanyo had with Christie, Eiki, etc. continued for the models involved, but those relationships will probably end when those projectors reach end of life.

Rob, just be careful to use a chart or calculation for the actual projector as a lens may be used on multiple projectors but variations in chip size and other optical factors between the projectors can change the resulting throw distance values.
