[WTB] QSC K10 or EV ELX112P

What, exactly, is this sad face in reaction to? The giving of my money to manufacturers making cheap, crappy boxes?

Just giving you a hard time, really. I can see where having RCA on a speaker is useful, but I have owned k series and renting them out without a big full-color document explaining where to plug things in guarantees you're getting a phone call.

I prefer to keep it simple. But, a k10 might be as simple as it gets in your situation.

And, unfortunately, I don't know of either available used right now.

Dude, I'm totally with you on this. That panel is a nightmare. This is really just a vestige of my bias for QSC gear because I'm already using the KW line for larger shows.

The real sad fact is that for the kinds of rentals I'm talking about, most people would accept a much lower standard of quality than the EV boxes, but I like to think I have some shred of integrity.

Re: QSC K10 or EV ELX112P

I worried about the complexity of that panel when I switched my small stuff over to the K10. Turned out not to be much of a problem. Oddly enough... the fact that it looks more complicated seems to make people stop and think about it for a second. Back when I had powered boxes for this purpose with only XLR in and out a a couple of dials, I would regularly get calls from people saying "it doesn't work!"... and it turned out to be that they'd forgotten to plug the power cord in. With the K10, I get less calls like that. People seem to figure it out. I do put gaff tape over the inputs that they shouldn't use. I think that helps. If you tape off the A side, you also don't have to worry about them plugging a line source into it and switching the thing over to "mic" level.

Having used them as my "small speaker" for several years now, I still like them a lot. Because they sound good up to a pretty loud volume, I can handle just about everything in that 'small' range with them -- public speaking, house parties, in-store DJs, spread around for large events... sometimes as stage monitors. They're a great multi-use tool. It means I can cover a whole lot of market segments with just one box.

I have had nothing but issues with K series. For some reason, when people can't get audio out of them, they switch them to the mic input, so when they finally get their mixer and cabling right, there is a huge explosion of feedback. Then there are settings that make no sense, like the vocal boost deal. Lately, I'm using K series at the local Hard Rock Cafe, where they're the house monitors. I'm the only one that uses them, but I don't set them up or put them away. It never fails that most of the settings are wrong and have to be corrected before each show starts (the settings mysteriously change when I'm not there apparently). Even the power switches are off sometimes. I never turn off powered speakers.

Edit: The marketplace is not supposed to be for discussions; sorry for starting one.
