Question

Re: Question

An even better question is how do you use an analog graphic EQ with a digital console, if you're using only digital outputs (like AES or networked audio)?

I'd say a DSP isn't worth using if it's not networkable. If it's networkable put it on the stage where it belongs.

I've made the commitment to switch my entire rig to network audio/digital everything. I don't use analog gear, at all--nor could I.

PS- you should still be able to insert it, but with lots of additional AD/DA and latency. The difference is audible.

Re: Question

When using a digital console with a stage rack conected by Cat5, is it still possible to insert your DSP at FOH or can you only use it at the stage end? If you can insert it at FOH,how do you do it?

Yes you can, and there are several ways to do it, depending on what console and digisnake you use.

One way to do it would be to run your master output either analog or digital and run that into the DSP unit you have at FOH.

The outputs of the DSP units would either have a way to feed the network directly, or more likely, would have to be run back into the console on spare channels that in turn can be routed to the network or Cat5 running to stage using either aux outputs or, perhaps preferably, the channel direct outs.

Staying digital all the way would probably be the best and having a DSP that can feed it's outputs directly into the cat5 system is the slickest option IMO.

What mixer and digisnake do you have in mind?
