Bud Spangler has passed away.

Those of you who knew him know how great a loss this is.

If you didn't know, he was a drummer, engineer, announcer, radio producer and I worked with and for him in all of those capacities.

He was also a REALLY NICE, AND FUNNY, GUY!

To him I offer the fondest farewell wish I can bestow.

It was a life well spent Bud. We're going to miss you.

Re: RIP Bud Spangler

Sure sounds like Bud Spangler was a cool guy, Lee.

I got a kick out the sentence that ended with " ...and a lone gig with Stan Getz.", which may simply be stating this fact, but it sounds a bit like it could also be an inside joke, especially given Getz's personal reputation for being an asshole, which was so at odds with his beautiful sound.

Re: RIP Bud Spangler

John,

John, one of the programs a few years ago at the Summer Jazz Camp and Festival I supervise the sound for was "Remembering Stan Getz". There was an opening panel discussion with some of the people who had brought Stan to that university as an "artist in residence" and a few former Stan Getz sidemen. This was followed by a tribute concert to him featuring those musicians and others from the camp faculty

Very early on in the discussion one of the former sidemen admitted that contrary to the title of the panel, there were quite a few musicians who had played with him who were still "trying to FORGET Stan Getz".

When I told Bud that he laughed long and hard.
