running subs off center channel

I have been running my subs off of my center channel in LR+mono mode on my console. For me, it simplifies things. I just select the channels I want to go to the subs and everything is sent there post fader with no problem. Are there any real drawbacks to doing this that I am not seeing, or haven't yet run into?

Liam,

This is technically the correct approach, as it keeps your sub/top crossover point consistent from one channel to the next. Using a variable auxiliary send allows you to do "EQ" with the sub level, but of course the correct place to apply EQ is in the EQ.

Re: running subs off center channel

Liam doesn't say specifically that he's running an X32, but my question is in the context of an X32.

It appears in-desk crossover processing can only be applied to the matrices and not LR nor C. If I'm wanting to leverage in-desk crossover processing, is there a way to feed L to one matrix and R to another to maintain the stereo image? Or have I completely missed the intent here?

ETA: Ah, looks like the adjacent matrices need linked first. Duh.
