So out of curiosity, is the search function any different from the old PSW forums?



From the things I've tried it seems to be picking out specifics within posts much better than on the old PSW forums.



Or is this just because of the small amount of content right now?

I'm betting it's that. I think we'll get a Google API key and try and build a custom search in that box.

Writing a full text search algorithm is really challenging, regardless of the data set size. The limitation for a small data set is not computer power, it is how many results the user is willing to glance at before he either finds what he is looking for, or gives up.



So with 1,000 posts, it is not hard to find what you want if you search for something specific, even if the search engine returns 3 good results and 30 irrelevant ones. Grow that to 100,000 posts and the user will probably give up before they look through any portion of 3,000 potentially-irrelevant posts.

Is it supposed to find only complete text strings?



Example: Text dbx-1066 (which I should have typed as dbx 1066).



If I search for 1066, nothing comes up. I have to search for the whole string dbx-1066.





It is not case sensitive, which is nice.
