Senn 300IEM G3 weirdness.

Hey Guys,

I'm racking my brains with this one. 4 G3 transmitters in one rack, antenna combiner running them. Standard senny paddle.

Turn them all on all but 1 belt pack gets RF, all tuned and synced. Tried changing frequency. Still nothing. Different pack tuned to the same transmitter same issue. First pack tuned to another transmitter that checks out as good.

So narrowed it down to one transmitter having an RF issue. If i hold the pack 1 cm from the paddle it gets rf but drops out as soon as I move away. I can then spend 20 mins retuning turning things on and off or leave it all swiched on and the pack will randomly pop on wih full RF signal and stay like that for the rest of the night. Provided the transmitter doesn't get turned off. It's 100% on there after.

Where do I start? I'm totally confused with this one!

Re: Senn 300IEM G3 weirdness.

Are you certain that the patch cables connecting the transmitters to the antenna combiner are in good working order? Maybe a broken antenna on the offending belt packs?

(correct me if Im wrong but I thought)The cables on the senns also pass the DC power to the transmitter units which leads me to think its something else, Belt pack is fine on any other transmitter. It just the one transmitter has issues. I'll play the cable game on our next day off. The way it comes on and stays on after 20mins or so with no issues there after makes me think cables are ok.

Thanks for the reply. Will try swapping stuff about anyway.

Re: Senn 300IEM G3 weirdness.

Hardware fault in the transmitter or one of the ports in the combiner (unlikely).
You could try powering the transmitter discrete and connect the antenna directly and see if that helps.

Re: Senn 300IEM G3 weirdness.

Sounds like either a transmitter antenna connection failure or a final RF drive failure. I have seen similar problems with various RF gear and antenna connection failure is the culprit 90% of the time. Could be a problem inside the unit itself...

Re: Senn 300IEM G3 weirdness.

First check if the receiver works on another transmitter frequency.
If the problem persists you have a faulty receiver, if not check the receiver and combined port.
If the transmitter is your problem it can be hardware (broken antenna connection inside maybe) or firmware/software. cross check if another receiver is fault free on the same frequency.

Yo!

Cheers for the replies everyone.

ok so I have eliminated the Combiner and cables...... Issue is the transmitter...... when I touch the connector on the back pannel it comes to life..... then drops out again..... totally an intermittent contact in the transmitter unit itself. my issue has been because its all in a 2 u rack I couldn't access the back of the units without dismantling the entire rack. Got time yesterday and found the above out...... going to try pulling the unit from the rack tomorrow and get a spanner on the bolt holding the connector as it was loose..... just finger tightened it in the rack and it came to life again...... (but that may be a coincidence as it was powered up for a while.)

Will let you know how it pans out. turns out the units are possibly still under warranty. Happy Kim

Thanks
