Shock or Standard?

Re: Shock or Standard?

I'm putting together my full X32 rig with S16's on stage with a battery backup and all that jazz. What style rack would you use? A shock rack or standard? This rack will only be 6U, so a pullover just seems silly.

Depends do you handle your own gear, or do you have "helpers" handle your gear. I try to spend 15-20% on the case for the piece of equipment I'm put it in. Having said that I don't think you need shock racks if you are moving your own stuff.

Re: Shock or Standard?

I sold my shock rack when I let go of the analog gear. I don't think the X32 Rack will mind being in a standard case (fingers crossed). I keep my standard X32 in a regular flight case and that doesn't seem to be causing any issues. It would be interesting to come up with some ideas for a custom case for the X32 though. I am seeking to add some kind of strain relief/patching/routing system or build it into the case (maybe an xlr patchbay), plus a mount for a router and space to store my iPad in there too. The case I have waiting for my X32 Rack is a rolling 6 space rack case. It is adequate, but it could be improved upon.

Re: Shock or Standard?

I always buy shock racks even if I alone am handling a piece of gear because the ride in one of my trailers or trucks is not going to be as smooth as in a car. Also you have a little added protection if something falls over or gets away from you on a hill. That's just me. If I was always using a car and the rack was not very heavy I would go for the lightest thing possible.
