Re: So We Are Finally Underway With Our New Building Project.....
. I am definitely not married to the idea that it has to be a line array..
I think the word "definitely" must mean different things.
From the original post : "We definitely want to do a line array"
It is easy to get carried away on things that are not understood how or why they work, and by marketing depts and sadly "general public opinion".
It is best to make an INFORMED decision, rather than to jump into something that seems "flashy".
It is not only a matter of what type of speaker system cabinet-but ALSO the particular layout of the system-stereo-mono-distributed etc.
They each have their own sets of advantages AND disadvantages in different rooms.
Often it comes down to "What are we trying to do here?". And that is a question that most people simply cannot answer-at least in a way that can practically done.
It is all a matter of compromises-and it helps to understand what those compromises are.
What appears to be "perfect" for one customer in a room-so completely wrong for a different customer in THE SAME room.
Good sound system design is the proper choice of loudspeaker layout/system that meets the customers needs and budget.
It is NOT "well I like brand XYZ or model ABC speaker because of how it sounded at a demo" That may be the completely wrong choice for the job at hand.
It does not matter how great a particular brand #2 phillips is. It could be the best in the world-no questions. But if you are trying to remove a slotted screw-it is completely the wrong tool.
A statement was "driven" into me years ago-that I always ask myself "What am I here to do?". NOT "What would I like to do?"
Assess the job at hand-what money-tools are available-what the desired outcome is-and go from there.
Going down the wrong path can easily lead you astray and you end up where you don't want to be-but it may be a very nice path.
