Soundcard - Default format. Play sync problem...

Hi Guys!

I’m going right to the point :)
When I have my soundcard settings to 44100 Hz - 24 bit (Studio quality), and Then play songs that are in 44100 Hz - 16 bit.
I feel like that the sound is getting "out of sync". A little distorted, and is annoying to listen to (especially in loud volumes).
The same goes if i would set the clock to 48000 Hz - 16 bit and play a song that's in 44100 Hz - 16 bit.
But then I rather feel a quite delay (or how I can put it...) like the sound "does not float".

Should this setting be changed every time I listen to songs in different Sample rate (48 kHz vs. 44.1 kHz) and the Bit depth (24 bit vs. 16 bit)?

Pretty please... Anyone?

As much as possible the sample rates and frequencies should match up...obviously. Why would you think a square peg will fit perfectly in a round hole???

Is this on a Dell laptop? My XPS15 has those options. I just set it as high as it goes and don't have any problems.

Can you confirm that the files play properly on other devices?

Thanx for replying!

Acer Extensa (laptop) with a Roland Quad-Capture externa soundcard.

All I can say is that I've tried playing the same track on two computers (laptops. My girlfriends integrated soundcard) and different songs in different players.
I mix music in Adobe Audition CS 6 och I find this player to respond the clearest sound. After that I think VLC and then Foobar2000.
Like I said Playing av 44.1 kHz track with the settings on 48 kHz will for mer Not give a pleasent playback.
Tough playing av 48 kHz track on a 48 kHz "default format" setting gives me a smooth playback.
The same goes if the Bitrates are inequal on the track and in the setting of the soundcard.
I would hope that there shouldn't be a problem but it is.. my girfriend confirms that having the wrong settings makes the music (mostly Glitch Hop in .Flac quality - with the full spectra of frequenses left intact) sound strenuous, annoying, very tiring. But in the right setting the sound has good timing, is clean, smooth and exakt making it pleasant to listen to (if you like glitch hop that is :-)

Try it yourself. If you don’t find any at all change… what could be wrong? I appreciate your help! :)

Yes, you MUST play back at the sample rate the recording was created with. Or you must do Sample Rate Conversion on the fly, and that introduces additional audio latency.

Thanks Alot! I have really had a hard time finding this information out on the World Wide Web of internet :)
Since most novice peoples computers are set to Default Format 44100 Hz 16 Bit (CD Quality) as standard.
This would be the best setting to convert your distribution product to.

And since CD quality only can deliver 44.1 kHz at 16 bit... there realy isn't any mening in thinking that ".mp3 Rip's" you find in downloads that says other, would be nothing short os false marked 44.1/16 tracks. People seldom release their material genuinely in 48/32.
Not even Beatport delivers higher than 44.1/16 mostly, in their Aiff and Wave.
A conversion back to 44.1/16 could be in place tough I've read that there could be loss of information... even if you save a .mp3 48/32 to al lossless .flac 44.1/16 (the sound won't get better anyway). Right?
