Forgive me if this is a total n00b question, im a total n00b...

We just got a Si Expression 2 (24 channel), I really like the mixer but there is one thing I am having trouble figuring out. I am trying to use Mix 14 (post fade) as an aux out for recording. I have everything working as I want but the signal coming out does not sound like the main mix. The output of Mix 14 is much more bright. I have the channel on post fade (green fader glow) and Mix 14 is set to Post EQ. Im not sure whats up, I want Mix 14 to sound identical to the main mix. Any input is much appreciated.

Are you doing any EQ on your main mix? Are you using any subgroups that may have EQ on them?

Are you monitoring both mixes the same way? If you were listening to your main mix on your PA and listening to mix 14 on headphones that could cause the difference.

A post fader mix is basically a subgroup and thus can be eq'd separately. I would suggest soloing it and eq it in the monitor section using headphones.

Figured it out. When Mix 14 was selected I also had LR on the out panel selected. Once I turned off the LR on Mix 14 then my mixes sounded identical. I knew it must be something obvious I was overlooking. Not used to these fancy digital mixers!!

Thanks for the replies! Im sure I'll be back soon... :)~:-)~

Great! I have an Si Expression 3 and had a similar problem. My main mix during playback from my DAW (via the multidigital card) sounded like an AM radio. The problem was obvious... one of my band mates who was enamoured with the fader glow on the graphical eq had set the LR GEQ to a pattern that looked cool, but sounded like crap. Once I realized this, I made it a habit to periodically check this on all Mixes, Matrices, as well as the LR and M outputs.

You can always route your LR through a matrix first before heading to the PA, and do any system tuning on the matrix, so recording your LR hopefully still sounds flat on 'tape'.
