Sources for LTL shipping?

I'm looking for something most economical but not "Cuzzin' Stinky's Truckin' Service." Found a deal on 4 subs but its just too far to drive. UPS and FedEX have shown around around $650-$700 for two standard 48x40 pallets, loaded approximately 46" high, weighing at most 450lbs each. That just seems kind of high to me. Anybody have any good companies they have used before? Thanks

PS - If this needs to be in the Basement/Marketplace, please move for me.

Re: Sources for LTL shipping?

Just signed up on freightquote.com... now I'm awaiting a phone call... do they not have an online quote request?

Also, I have found some really good quotes on uship.com... even ups LTL and fedex LTL for around $300...(what gives?)... but all I can do from their site is order the service... it says I'm responsible for all paperwork, bill of lading, etc. I have never done this before and I have no idea what all I would be required to do or provide as far as paperwork, labeling, etc. goes? The seller aggreed to palletize and shrink wrap the subs if I would handle all shipping arrangements and cost. So i need to know what sort of paperwork I need to provide him to have on pickup of the items. Are there any good resources out there for this? Or can anyone steer me in the right direction? Thanks again.

You can e-quote on the Freightquote site.

If you are new to this you'll probably want to talk to someone at freightquote or uship and get them to assist you with getting the necessary paperwork in place. For national shipments, it's not too bad. International shipments are more tedious.
