Anyone else ever been to a franchise store that does this? Am I just paranoid or is this unsafe? If one fell on my head I couldn't imagine it feeling pretty good...

That's unacceptable- assuming the zips are actually holding the speaker. Hopefully those are all mounted securely but it's hard to tell at that angle. Perhaps the zips are holding cable runs. That could hurt, for sure.

Our local high school has a Community R2 that is tied to a pole with a rachet strap. It has been up there a couple of years.

Just a matter of time. It has already changed color from blue to grey. I've been meaning to get a photo of it.

We put a system in a chuch in which the old system used fishing line to "stablize" the speakers. They were hung with swingset chain on open loop eyebolts screwed into the sides of a particle board cabinet.

I'm glad that system came down-before somebody got hurt.

It is quite amazing how some systems are installed.

I stood in the aisle behind it and it was only holding the speaker, no cable runs, just the joint designed for screwing into walls was zip tied to the ceiling truss.

Yikes..Look out. Doesn't take forever for those to get pretty brittle. Guess the screwed in speaker cable is the safety 8O~8-O~

Not only are these zip-tied/rachet-strapped elevated objects dangerous if the attachment mechanism snaps in the course of everyday life, the heat from a fire is garanteed to make things like this come down. Like firefighters don't have enough to worry about while searching through a smoke-filled public building for people to rescue...

They DO get brittle. I have a plastic jar full that I use for cleaning up amp rack wiring. Was doing some work a few weeks back and almost every one I used snapped in half. The rest went in the trash, and I bought new ones. They were only a couple years old too.
