System Architect 3

I've sniffed around the Crown Forums and have not seen anything about System Architect 3 and more importantly is it backwards compatible to my old Xti's. I just got a couple of the new Xti 4002 types and wanna program them beyond front panel offerings and discovered that my old PC laptop is not big enough for the new software. Some say use an emulator on my MacPro but I really wish they would scrap the whole thing and write a dual platform code. I'm not a code writer so that's easy for me to wish for huh?!

Question 1 - does anyone know if System Architect 3 is backward compatible for all older Crowns?

Question 2 - has anyone installed System Architect 3 on a MacPro using an emulator? If yes - which emulator?

Thanks

Re: System Architect 3

Yes, System Architect 3 is compatible with everything that System Architect has ever been compatible with; they wouldn't stop supporting a product.

I have not used System Architect 3 on a Mac, but I have no reason to believe it would be any different than any previous version. They aren't changing anything major; for the most part, they're just adding features. It will be more like a Flash player update than going from Office 2003 to 2007 - it's not a big jump.

What about your old laptop won't handle System Architect 3? If it handled any System Architect before it should be fine. Why not use Band Manager, which is specifically designed for the XTi series?

Re: System Architect 3

Gene,

I run SA in VMWare Fusion, works great.

Bennett - by that I'm guessing you have a MacPro and that you are also using the new System Architect 3 ? ?

Any others have comments regarding the new version?

@ Silas - here is the reason my old laptop won't carry the new load -

Gene, yes, System Architect is a power hungry beast. I'm assuming you're just running an amp or two? If so, it's going to work fine...I've even run it on a single-core netbook with no issues. Harman is gearing their system requirements to those doing distributed installs and big shows with hundreds of devices.

You're going to be fine.

Actually all I'm doing is programming and assigning presets for individual Xti's

all was well until I got the new Xti 4002's and they need the new version 3 of System Architect.

I have never tried Band Manager but have heard that it was missing a few features so I never looked into it. If it will do everything needed AND talk to the new Xti2's from my old dinosaur laptop I'll just go with it. I'll sniff around regarding that option and report back.

Yep, it doesn't scream along but then again my laptop is about five years old. Works find for what I need, which is exclusively running array prediction programs and DSP control apps (like SA).
