I was just looking at the QSC ad for the KLA. I know we have about beat the constant curvature thing to death but the picture in the ad struck me as pretty ridiculous. A 5 box stack clearly has the top and bottom boxes pointed in almost opposite directions.

Unless a really steep venue matches that profile, I don't see how to aim two of the boxes anywhere useful.

On the other hand, it looks like a 3 box hang would nicely cover a small club. I wonder why that would not be highlighted in the ad.

The question is, what does the radiation behavior of the array actually look like? When you start putting boxes together it's not just point and shoot. I've certainly seen 4 box hangs of similar products, they can work in certain applications. Another box on top of that is just another word for "front fill".

Re: the birds and the beatles

I am just going by their own ad copy. They claim 5 boxes is 90 degrees vertical. While that may work in some settings, I think my point was more that they have chosen an exception for the ad, rather than what may become a common configuration. I am guessing but I think the 5 box maximum is probably due to weight/torque issues rather than coverage. Just because you can hang 5 boxes doesn't mean you should. The ad seems to be focused on 5 boxes with both the photo and the print.

Since posting, I made it to the back of the magazine and in the product review they show 2 18 inch subs with 3 of the boxes, which as I said looks like a good solution for a small to medium club.

I think they probably show 5 boxes for the same reason that Audi is advertising their new A8... a $100,000 car that they probably sell 1% as many as they sell A4s. Show off the flagship, biggest, best, coolest looking thing you've got.

Better yet, Audi is teasing the A7.
