Hi, I was at a concert the other day, and noticed that the soundperson pressed a button labelled "Bypass" on a box with lots of faders. The sound instantly got a lot clearer, with less mud in the bottom and no icepick-thru-the-forehead at 2.5 KHz, but he switched the effect off again after a couple of seconds. So I went up and asked him about the bypass-effect and how to use it and why he didn't use it all the time. I didn't quite get his answer, he was mumbling something like:" Why do they let these idioms up here", whatever that means.
Anyway, I didn't think much more about it, but I went up to the singer after the concert, it was black metal, and complimented him on very impressive bellowing. He sent me a very annoyed look, he probably didn't appreciate getting complimented, probably some black metal thing I don't understand.
This Bypass-effect, what does it do, and which unit is the best one if you don't want to spend too much money?
