I know some of you have a penchant for firearms... especially Bennett. My brother, sister-in-law and her family are into this stuff as well. They recently made a cool video, so I thought I'd share:

I was waiting for someone to get hit by falling bullets. Some of those guys looked like they were firing straight up in the air. Not very smart.

Shades of my youth. If you tell me they're on a farm outside of Iola, WI, I'm really going to freak out.



A friend has the same Ruger .44 mag, plus the .357 version, the .22 Single Six, and the big ones are a bit of a bear to control.



BTW, Mayo jars with water blow up real good when hit.

They're near Janesville, WI, actually - I don't know how close to Iola that is... but you can't be that far off!

Janesville is very close to the state line with Illinois, northwest of us here in Chicago. Been there many times, some nice bicycling west of there.



Iola is due north 100 miles or so. A nice small town about 30 miles east of Steven's Point. Farms and woodland, nice small rivers with some trout, nice lakes. One of the notable events there is a great classic car show every summer. Beautiful in the Fall, as long as you're not a deer.

A good friend has a family farm just outside of town, back of the property on the lake, and an old gravel pit in the middle of 150 acres. There is a lot of lead and copper at the far end, about 100 yards away from the side we always set up at.

True dat. Some of my friends from the plant were out doing a ''lunch and launch'' with various spud guns. One of the projectiles we had was an empty caulk tube that had a bit of sand in the nose and some ''fins'' cut from the bottom. It fit perfectly in my 2'' bore potato cannon... Like the geeks we are, we wanted to find out the muzzle velocity by firing it straight up and timing the interval between the shot and the landing. Well, it went straight up and came almost straight down right smack into the middle of the windshield of one guy's truck. And cracked it pretty badly... if we'd only been videotaping this stuff it would have been a YouTube classic ''dumbass'' video.

Yup, if it weren't for air, the projectile would be traveling at the same speed back at ground level when firing straight up as it would if you were standing in front of the muzzle. With a small lead projectile, the air won't slow it down enough to keep it from penetrating one's skull or other tissues. Physics is a beautiful thing.

Blows my mind that cute and lovable Kristy Jo could blow my head off! Nice to know one of the few women I see at a trade show rocks like this.
