Last night I had to travel from Western Berks County to Chester County through eastern Lancaster County. Conservatively, I had to pass at least 40 buggies on the way down and maybe 10 more on the way home. I must say they have some impressive lighting on those buggies. It must have been some kind of Amish shindig going on. Besides the buggies, there were kids and people on bicycles, scooters and on foot. I've run into this before but not to this level. This is probably one of the few places in the country where you run into something like this.

Pretty interesting that the Amish can carry on in todays society. There was a documentary a while back following a couple teens as they transitioned into adulthood. Cant remember the name. Kids were very conflicted and in most cases wanted the amenities that the rest of us have such as cell phones and cars.

It's really a strange lifestyle. They can have a phone for business, but not in the home. They can have electricity in the shop, but not in the home. They can ride in a car, but can't drive one. Some of the kids do leave the church. I know one who lives a life like the rest of us. He has a nice home, a landscaping business with bucket truck, married to a school teacher and drives. But his brother lives the Amish lifestyle a few miles away.
