Anybody have experience with this box? Would be 1/side to start, 2/side looks like it would make a killer B rig.

Specs look good on paper, price is right and includes the processor. Not a lot of reviews out in internet land though...

Re: Turbosound TCS-612

I looked at the specs of the TCS-612 and it seems like a nice box on paper.....doesn't seem like it has a lot of output.
Unless you are buying them for next to nothing I would say your other contenders wuld be the way to go...with me favoring the QRX112/115 option as I like the horn driver better in the EV then the JBL.

The TCS seems interesting, but I think you would be stuck with them if they don't work out for you....as you can tell from the response to this thread.

Seems to work best in multiples.

$399.99 for pair with processor, but the ad has been up for a while so I'd be cautious of issues with the boxes when I demo'd them.

I've mixed on some EV rigs and a lot of JBL rigs (work for a shop that uses JBL, as well as a theatre that has JBL installed). I know how to make either choice sound good, I like the EV as it presents a viable alternative to the JBL gear, I worry about support as the nearest dealer is 1.5 hours away.

Also a good point, sourcing more could be tough. The QRX seems to win as far as availability at this point.

Re: Turbosound TCS-612

This thread made me look up the TCS612s several times today. I did some comparing and thought maybe it would help, I have no experience with the TCS612 and you may have likely looked all this up already but here goes.

Im with Vinny, I looked up the spec sheet and they look like they would be some good sounding boxes but at least on paper they dont seem that loud. According to the EV QRX112 the numbers in sensitivity continuous and peak are nearly identical. I dont know how either were actually measured. When Biamped I now that the EV QRX112 can get very lound and still sound pretty good to my ear. IMO what puts the EV ahead is (like Vinny said) the horn is a great driver and just sounds good, they make GREAT monitors or SOS systems, Horn is rotatable, Biamp OR passive, less than 60lbs, flyware is built in and they sound pretty darn good. On the Turbosound, I like the Idea of the TCS612 as a compact(ish) 3 way box, with flyware built in. Its older, weighs more at 70bs and is bi amp only (which I dont mind but can be rough in low power areas). How readily available are any parts if you do need them? All this being said I have always enjoyed working with any Turbosound system I have been on (minus the guitar center line they had for a while). Their newer stuff is fantastic. I worked in a club with a floodlight rig for 3+ years that sounded damn good and never had an issue. I currently own some Turbosound Milan powered boxes and could not be happier. If I could find at least 4 TCS612 and a processor Id buy into them for smaller gigs with 1 or 2 per side but being that they seem hard to find they would just be 2 odd boxes in the inventory. Again its mostly my opinion but I hope some of the info may help.

Here are some numbers from the sheets:
Turbo TCS612
Sensitivity LF: 98db 1 watt @ 1m (avg)
Sensitivity MF/HF: 103db@ 1m (avg)
Max SPL 125db cont 131peak

EV QRX112
Sensitivity 98db 1 watt @ 1m
Max SPL 131db 1m (calc)

Here are the spec sheets too:

Electro-Voice QRx 112/75 12-inch two-way full-range loudspeaker

here!
i have 4ea TCS-612 in cases with original processor, but mostly use a lake lm-26 with a 4channel lab amp doing the job as MY B-rig (a-rig is a meyer 8)~8-)~ ).
in single configuration i use a 2x 15" as sub, in dual - hang over each other - 2x 18" each side - both are g-sub types.
never had a problems since i owned them.
If you can get them THAT cheap, I would go for it.

Re: Turbosound TCS-612

Some information here on the TCS-612 that I hope you will find useful: one of Turbosound's first compact high power three way loudspeakers, the TCS-612 was a bi-amped box produced from 1995 up until the late 90s when it was superceded by the TQ-440. The 612 used Precision Devices 12" and 6.5" drivers and crossed over passively to a VHF compression driver at 8kHz mounted concentrically with the mid driver. The dual angle cabinet side walls made it particularly intuitive to assemble short throw or long throw clusters and ground stacks. A spec sheet can be found here ftp://ftp.turbosound.com/datasheets/legacy_products/ Max SPL was a conservative 131dB peak but strong on midrange projection, vocals especially.

Re: Turbosound TCS-612

As a little update, I've decided to pass on the Turbosound. For no other reason than this thread:

http://soundforums.net/junior-varsity/5448-replacement-woofer-turbosound-txd-12m.html

I finally got the parts for that cab a few days ago, but it took a lot of phone calls and eventually a friend of a friend was able to line some up.

Dear Spenser,

I responded on the Replacement woofer for Turbosound TXD-12M thread, but wanted to post here as well...

As MUSIC Group aquired the TurboSound Brand, we migrated all service and support (including spares) to our service depot in Las Vegas. Hey Pat,
I appreciate the response, I sent you a PM to discuss some things I don't want to say publicly.
