If you're not a math person (as I am not) this will probably turn on a light above your head. I have more questions, but like the author of this piece the equation makes no sense to me but this explanation with a physical world allegory does!

The real trick is the "fast" fourier transform, that is um faster...

math magic...

I need to get this stuff figured out since i have some non-standard applications in mind. We can do the basic DSP math on relatively inexpensive processors these days.
