Van/truck ramps

Re: Van/truck ramps

I "custom made" my ramp out of lumber scraps I had lying around. A couple of lengths of 2x6, some 5/8 plywood stuck into a dado slot on 2x4's and some miscellaneous tapered shims. It fits exactly in the well-step of the side door of my Aerostar (on end) and doubles as a place to put my FOH chair on soft or soggy soil. If I need to have less slope to the ramp I just use an equal length of 3/4 plywood which fits between the 2x4 rails. It rides flat in the back of the van to make it easier to slide cases in and out as it covers the carpeting.

Works for me and cost $0 to make.

On the cheap end I have one of these (and it works)...

I only use it to get into a trailer but it does that job and is reasonable for the price on sale. I wouldn't jump around with 1200 lbs, but it holds me (235 lbs), and some heavy shit.

This is what I'm using (the 6' long version) Very sturdy.
Only down side is that it is 6' long and my trailer is slightly less that that tall.

Re: Van/truck ramps

I've got a small truck - Isuzu NKR200. I had a ramp custom built for it and it's welded onto the back. Ramp takes up 1/2 of width of the rear of truck. It is double hinged.

first hinge is the join between truck and ramp. second hinge is 1/2 way down the ramp. So the ramp folds up onto itself and compacts nicely against the back of the truck.

To drop the ramp I pull two pins and unfold - ramp is down in mere seconds. I find it still useful when I'm at loading bays which are at different heights, or I can bypass the ramp and load out through the other 1/2 open space on the back.

I offer this in case you're wanting something more permanent and quick.
