So, it seems that the host I've been using for the past 6 years has suddenly vanished from the face of the earth. No emails saying they were going out of business, no warning, nothing. So, I need to find a new host asap. Any suggestions? I don't need anything with a lot of storage or traffic flow. A basis 100MB plan would be plenty for me.

Thanks!
Evan

1and1 is what I used to use, pre-VPS. For simple stuff, they are fine. Customer support blows. I'd probably try Hostgator if I had to do it again. Once you become more of a power user, VPS is the way to go.

Make sure you use a large name registrar independent from your hosting. I use namecheap, and moniker.

Re: Website hosting...

I just moved to arvixe. I think it's a pretty good deal. Http://www.arvixe.com

My band's site is on Arvixe and has been for a little over 2 years (just paid for year 3). It's inexpensive, I've had no service issues, the site doesn't crash, and they've helped me with somewhat stupid questions. I'm going to move my Studio/Sound website to them when it's current year runs out.

Re: Website hosting...

1and1 is my vote, whatever you do, I'd avoid InMotion Hosting, I was going to switch to them, nightmare. I ended up going back to 1and1.

+1! I used to be with them and as you said nightmare! Never again! I eventually switched to ix web hosting in 2007 and I'm more than happy and satisfied since then. No complaints so far.
