Wedding Ceremony & Cocktail speakers?

I’m in the process of selling some and sold some of my powered speakers; I had/have a variety of RCF HD12a, db Tech DVX DM12 & DM15… I am selling/sold all of them to streamline my equipment and purchase 1 type of speaker. Since I’ve sold a few, it’s time to start buying some new speakers. This time I am looking for more of a “utility” type speaker; that Swiss army knife.

Intended Purposes:
The said new speaker will need to cover speech for >200 theater seated guests at weddings ceremonies AND/OR a Trio band (vocals, keys, acoustic guitar, sax) providing background music for the Cocktail Hour with >200 people standing. Every once in a while I’ll need to lay a one down on the ground to use as a monitor wedge.

Speaker Requirements:
Current Production (no used or remaining stock)
10” or 12” full range, pole mountable
Self-Powered
Monitor Angle
PowerCon preferred
Full front grill
Speaker settings (full range, sub, etc)
Built in 2+ channel mixer (Link/Thru is Post mixer)
Price Point Under $1000 (Retail, New)

I really like the Turbosound Milan, it meets most of your requirements, and sounds pretty good as well. My only worry for your application might be the aesthetics of the box, it's never been an issue for my application, but high end clientele might not approve.

Re: Wedding Ceremony & Cocktail speakers?

Im gonna probably swap over after this season. I am definitely looking for some bluetooth for streaming music during cocktail hours. Looks like a lot of the newer models are offering that option.

Re: Wedding Ceremony & Cocktail speakers?

What do you currently use for these events/monitors? Perhaps those or something similar would be a good option if you're interested in streamlining stock.

Max, I used to have RCF HD12A, db Tech DVX DM12 and DM15... I have since sold most of it as neither of them had a "mini" mixer. I used to have 8 of those speakers and now I am looking at buying 6 of One-Kind.

The EV EKX should be in stores by now. I didn't like the sound of the ETX but if the EKX is a more robust version of the ELX it may be a contender. With the complicated DSP it might not be a good rental, but might be a good versatile box for people who can set it up.

Re: Wedding Ceremony & Cocktail speakers?

It's slotted in between the ELX and ETX lines. Wood enclosures. Appears to have most of the ETX DSP features with a bit less power and different drivers, maybe derived from the ELX series. I was waiting for them to come out and see what they were like. I don't need the mixing or DSP adjustments and Mike Pyle gave me such a good price on the DSRs that it made sense to go with a known quantity. I suppose that you could set up the DSP to clean up the speaker's response if it's voiced like an ETX and I think there's some sort of lock out available on some of the DSP settings. The DSRs were plug and play for my application. But on-line pricing on the EKX12 is around $900 and other than a PowerCon they hit the rest of your list

Re: Wedding Ceremony & Cocktail speakers?

I have a pair of K10s. I bought them some 5 years ago based on buzz on PSW and hearing them at GC. In the ensuing years I've seen more and more people switch to DXR10s. Usually for more headroom. But I've also noticed that there is more HF out to the sides of the pattern with the Yamahas than with the QSCs. Which may be an intelligibility issue with speech events in ballrooms, etc.

Yamaha DXR12 seem to do what you want, Matt. The "LINK" output isn't described very well, but the diagram at the bottom of page 11 of the DXR manual shows the kind of hook up you propose.
