What are these sensors?

As I browse eBay, I keep seeing these "SPL Sensors" listed from all sorts of different companies obviously catering to the car audio market.
I was just wondering what they were? Their websites are all pretty funny. Especially the one which claims 2Hz-20kHz, 50-186+ dBSPL, NIST certified calibration and precision to 0.001 dB ;-) I would buy one and take it apart, but they all cost $400-500 !!!!!!

Re: What are these sensors?

Looks like small diameter pressure microphones.

Well yes possibly... But that is a very broad category that really says nothing about the sensor. I have some Capacitive 1" pressure microphones which are accurate from 0.1Hz-1000Hz and 50-180dBSPL but they cost a couple thousand a piece.

I've also seen transducers sold as pressure sensors which claimed to have some accuracy in the DC-100Hz range. Maybe they are piezoresistive? Not sure. Was just wondering if anyone had ever taken one apart, to see what capsule was in it.

Obviously this is some part that is easy to buy, since so many companies are building them.

TermLab is a measurement system. When I competed in USACi in my younger days it was the "official" measurement system that was at all the competitions. That was some ten years ago now, and I don't remember it being much more then a calibrated SPL meter.
