It depends.

Some are deaf-so they like screeching highs.

some are deaf and they like just pounding lows

Some think distortion is "the way a sound system is supposed to sound".

Some are happy with systems that get down to 50Hz while others need a system that gets down to 20Hz

It really depends on the levels of expectations.

A DJ in a corner bar has different expectations than a touring artist who is used to large scale sound.

This is probably a Junior Varsity topic so I will respond. I think by Dancehall you are referring to Reggae Dancehall music. I think the bass scoops have been popular in that genre for a while as you will see a lot of cabinets fabricated by the "sound systems".
Sound preferences really vary from dj to dj. Heavy bass is a must. I think for the bigger systems people play by the rule 4 subs to one top if I remember correctly. I have seen and dealt with guys who let it run red all night and others who are very conscious about levels and house sound quality. It really varies but you can count on the bassline wanted to be heavy.
