I think the bass scoops have been popular in that genre for a while as you will see a lot of cabinets fabricated by the "sound systems". Sound preferences really vary from dj to dj. Heavy bass is a must. I think for the bigger systems people play by the rule 4 subs to one top if I remember correctly. I have seen and dealt with guys who let it run red all night and others who are very conscious about levels and house sound quality. It really varies but you can count on the bassline wanted to be heavy.
