I'm a mobile DJ and looking to spend around $2,000 on a pair of single 18's or a single dual enclosure. I'm not worried about size or how easy it is to transport, I am just looking for that real heavy bass response (primarily that 75 hz kick). I play anything from 80's music to EDM and trap. I generally play for an audience of about 300 people in gyms or halls. Are Cerwin Vega's or folded horns any good or would a front loaded sub be a better choice?

For that budget, a pair of used JBL SRX728 would be a reasonable start, assuming you already have a suitable amp. Cerwin Vegas and the other cheap stuff GC sells will leave you disappointed eventually.

I've been using powered gear for a while now but I have to take all my gear in and out of my house and with my setup growing I would rather leave my gear in my trailer. I have quite a few gigs coming up and I could save up for a suitable amp. What amp (on somewhat of a budget) would you recommend if I were to go with a pair of JBL SRX728's?

Crown ITech 8000 (used).

If you call and ask for a good price, you should get reasonably close to your 2K for a pair of PRX718XLF's. They are a gem in this price range of a speaker and are powered and processed beautifully. I got mine for $1100 each (which is fairly common if you ask around).

I am a big fan of the SRX728, but man are they big and heavy!

I'm 57 and 5'7" tall. I move 728s by myself, and I have a way of stacking them by myself, too.

You kids have had it way too easy... now get off my lawn! 8)~8-)~

If 728's are too heavy, I can recommend a lucrative career in knitting.

I don't think they're particularly heavy and when compared to the low-output shit I lifted 25 years ago, it weighs almost nothing. ;) Even the VerTec 4880 subs seem light, the 4880A are another story...

Re: What's are the right subwoofers for me?

I'm talking to a guy on Craigslist who has a 728 in fair condition and he's asking $1000 for it. Good deal or not?
