They are more of a visual derterant to the masses who might try to pocket one. Obviously it assists when sorting out if someone has brought their own vocal mic, or if I have new labour around. it's avoids the inevitable ''is this yours?'', ''how bout this one''...It has my company name and number under neath - again if one gets lost. I've actually started to laser engrave my mics with my logo. If you check out sm58 , 5th from the left, you'll see my logo burned onto the body of the mic. They have a nice 80K machine here at my day job that does a fine job of direct part marking whatever you want.Does a nice job on rack panels too
